Scholarships

A few of our Funds provide scholarships for a wide range of educational and vocational subjects. We work with institutions such as universities and schools to identify the individuals that best fit the Scholarships’ criteria.

The Judith Clark Memorial Fund Fellowship

The Judith Clark Memorial Fund was set up in Judith’s name following her death in 2014.

Music performance graduates of all instruments, including voice, are encouraged to apply for a Judith Clark Memorial Fellowship. For criteria and application details visit the Universities New Zealand website

Judith was grateful for scholarships she received as a young student; the scholarship funds enabled her to further her music studies overseas, where she took every opportunity to study with and observe many of the top professional performing pianists and artists of the day.

Projects which will be considered by the selection committee include attendance at a reputable summer school or summer academy or auditions for longer-term postgraduate study program. Applications for other short-term projects will be assessed on their merits.

The Fund also provides grants to music related bodies.

Warren Douglas Scholarship Fund

Warren Douglas was an exceptional ballet dancer who sadly passed away far too early in 1995. He made the change from being a well-respected dancer with the Royal New Zealand Ballet to Manager of the Opera House.

In the last few months of his life, Warren talked about his wish to set up a scholarship fund to help those who wanted to make the transition from Performer to Arts Administrator as he had done. He could see that there was a need to help others by providing a fund for education and training for those who might want to follow in his footsteps.

The Warren Douglas Scholarship is primarily for mid-career dance practitioners who are interested in arts management, with particular emphasis on people making the transition from performance to arts administration. Applicants are welcome to apply for assistance with course fees, materials, travel, accommodation for professional development courses in arts administration, attendance at conferences, workshops or seminars and upskilling for performing artists in areas such as administrations, technical or tour management.

Applications are now open for the 2023 Warren Douglas Scholarship!

To apply, please submit a written letter to lindy@nikaufoundation.nz by Friday the 1st of December 2023 including the below information:
